About
A little more about how Wondering Time came to be and Artist/Educator Camille Smicker.
The Wondering Time Journey
I started Wondering Time when becoming a mom required me to pause my theatre career. I’ve always been a maker, though, and I needed a way to channel my creativity into something tangible. What began as playful experiments with polymer clay at my kitchen table grew into handmade earrings, hand-stamped cards, and textiles designed to inspire wonder and bring a smile to your face (or a friend’s!).
I’ve always loved giving gifts—especially finding the perfect gift for someone (much to my sister’s benefit). When my husband, Ron, and I first talked about opening a shop, my initial thought was, I’m a theatre maker, not a shop owner. But the more I sat with it, the more it made sense. I love gift-giving. I love finding the one thing that really connects with someone—whether it’s a shared joke, a meaningful quote, a pair of bright, funky earrings, or a quirky tea towel. Seeing someone light up when they open a gift that feels truly just for them never fails to brighten my day.
And I love making things. I always have. From drawing with my Nonna in our cozy Portland, Oregon basement, to making masks for theatre productions, creating has always been in my DNA. Life pivots in strange ways sometimes, and this shop is one of those miraculous, serendipitous pivots—bringing together my passions as a maker, educator, collaborator, and gift giver.
Wondering Time is a place to find something truly unique: handmade, one-of-a-kind pieces made with care. It has also grown into a space for small creative workshops—inviting people to gather, make, and enjoy a little dose of creativity, connection, and fun.
Whether you’re here to shop for a thoughtful gift, join a workshop, or collaborate on a bespoke or custom piece, I’m so glad you found your way to Wondering Time. Come in, get curious, and let’s make something meaningful together.
Eventually Wondering Time grew into a business that combines products with small creative workshops to bring people together for a dose of creativity, connection and fun.
